The new function means a great improvement for training and is almost a small sensation because it works without additional hardware. All it takes is a webcam set up in most devices, as well as the saccade training, which contains a variety of exercises. The activation of eye tracking is very simple: If you do not have a customer account yet, you set it up in a few minutes, calibrate your eyes shortly and activate eye tracking before starting the exercise. As an introduction, the app can be tested free of charge for 14 days to gain initial practical experience.Free registration
The aim of the article is to present you the new function of eye tracking in the context of saccade training. It is a new addition and makes the therapy even more efficient in case of existing half-side blindness. I would like to encourage you to try this new function directly in eye training. The saccade training with eye tracking is set up in a few steps and does not require any additional devices, which must first be bought and then laboriously installed.
Saccade training as a proven therapy of hemianopsia
With the help of the saccade trainer, visual field defects are compensated for by targeted eye movements, thus gradually restoring the old quality of life. Patients have already made the following progress with the saccade trainer:
- Increased vision
- Move more safely in everyday life
- Better orientation on the PC
- Performing everyday activities such as driving, cycling, hiking, sailing or working
- Improved mobility
- Improved social relationships
What is eye tracking?
Eye tracking is the observation and recording of eye behavior such as pupil dilation and movement, usually with an additional device (eye tracker). It is used in many areas, such as psychological research and packaging design. However, in terms of screen-based media, it is mainly used by researchers to determine where users are looking.
Eye tracking as a new function in the context of saccade training
To further improve eye training, the new function of eye tracking has been added. This makes eye training even more intuitive. The user still lets his eyes fly over the screen and fixes certain points. But now it is enough if he fixes the found object with his eyes. To confirm that the object has been found, the user no longer needs to use the mouse or keyboard. This detour is omitted, which gives the user much more immediate feedback regarding his eye activity.
This is especially helpful for people who:
- are not used to handling the mouse.
- Have shaky hands due to illness.
- suffer from paralysis.
- painful joint diseases are present.
The saccade training with activated eye tracking
The new function means a great improvement for training and is almost a small sensation because it works without additional hardware. All it takes is a webcam set up in most devices, as well as the saccade trainer, which contains a variety of exercises. The activation of eye tracking is very simple: If you do not have a customer account yet, you set it up in a few minutes, calibrate your eyes shortly and activate eye tracking before starting the exercise. As an introduction, the app can be tested free of charge for 14 days to gain initial practical experience.;
Calibrate eye tracking free
If you feel insecure, watch a short explanatory video advance and are quickly able to start the actual training even without great computer skills. Then you decide on one of the many exercises and place the eye tracking check mark in the right place.
As usual, the individual exercises are now performed. For example, if you have chosen the exercise Image Search 1, in which it is about identifying an image (for example, a dog) again and again in other places on the screen, you no longer have to click it with the PC mouse or the keyboard, but can leave it to the eyes. The eye tracking recognizes when you fix the dog with her gaze and evaluates this as identified. In this way, the user can concentrate purely on the eyes and is not distracted by their own mouse movements.
This makes the entire user experience extremely intuitive and much better understood. The user clearly has the feeling to really train his eyes and is very focused on what happens on the screen. At the end of the session, the results of the training are stored. Over the heatmap the results can be evaluated, so that the personal training successes become visible and comprehensible.
The study situation
Although the evaluation of eye tracking in the context of saccade training is still in its infancy, initial case reports shed a positive light on the new method for improving hemianopsia. Patients reported improved quality of life and easier orientation in everyday life. That's how an article dfrom Gestefeld, Koopman, Vrijling, Cornelissen und de Haan from february 2020 describes it..In their conclusio, the authors argue that the integration of eye tracking technologies can positively influence rehabilitation therapy of vision training results. People with hemianopsia are able to use these technologies and view them as a helpful addition to existing training.
Another study (December 2020),which deals with saccadic eye movements in children with attention disorders, also concludes that the children who participated in eye tracking training had significant improvements in saccade tenure and -accuracy compared to the control group. These preliminary results support the use of eye tracking training as a safe "non-pharmacological intervention" in the field of neurologically caused vision disorders.
Encouraging results for successful saccade training in neurological visual field limitations.
My personal recommendation for you
Unfortunately, half-face blindness cannot be cured by eye training, but saccade training can achieve very good results. The new function of eye tracking makes training even more efficient and more intuitive to use. That is why I would like to encourage you to start saccade training directly.Free registration
